“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a 2024 horror comedy directed by the legendary Tim Burton, continues the story line from the 1988 original film.
The movie opened on Friday, Sept. 6, with a domestic weekend box office of $111 million. It currently holds a 77% critics score and an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton star in the movie, delivering performances that will win over any viewer. Ryder and Keaton also appeared in the original “Beetlejuice” film, returning to their roles.
Siddhant Adlakha from IGN said, “Tim Burton allows the cast to have fun, even if they’re all in separate movies that barely overlap.”
It has Tim Burton’s style, which some consider a genre of film. While style is strong, the new characters are a letdown.
Some plotlines are dropped randomly and are never picked back up again. Jenna Ortega’s character, known as Astrid, is the only new character that is memorable.
“It’s a silly little sequel to an equally silly original,” Adlakha said. “And it’s hard to imagine wanting or needing much more from it.”
In a world full of legacy sequels, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is the most inoffensive and safe of the bunch.
