Eight new faculty members join Georgia Highlands College

The faculty of Georgia Highlands College welcomes eight new additions.
Brian Barr
Brian Barr, assistant professor of art, will be heading and expanding the art program at FC.
Barr has a master of fine arts degree from the New York Academy of Art and a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Central Florida.

In the past, Barr has participated in worldwide art programs in various places including Los Angeles, Italy, Germany, Greece and Turkey.

Barr has seven years of experience in developing and displaying exhibits for university galleries.In addition, Barr's own works have been displayed in various art shows across the country.

He has also worked as a prop designer at Walt Disney World.

Jacquline CottleJacquline Cottle, instructor of psychology/human services, has a master's degree in counseling psychology and another in industrial/organizational psychology. She also has a bachelor of arts degree in English from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

In the past, Cottle has taught at two and four-year colleges in Texas and Massachusetts. She has also practiced as a counselor in a chronic pain management program.

Dr. Mark Knauss, associate professor of biological sciences, has been an adjunct bioMark Knausslogy instructor at FC for the pasttwo semesters.

Knauss received his doctorate in biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor of science in biology from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture.

Most recently, Knauss served as a chair of the department of biology, psychology and sociology at "horter College. Knauss has two scholarly publications to his credit, and in 2000 received the "Shorter College Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership" award.

Kirby SwensonKirby Swenson, temporary instructor of biology, has a master of science in biology and a bachelor of science in biology from Jacksonville State University.

Swenson taught introductory biology courses at Jacksonville State University before coming to FC.

Harisha Patel, instructor in nursing education, obtained her masters of nursing science in nursing Harisha Pateladministration from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

She received her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Most recently, Patel has worked as an assistant nurse manager for cardiovascular research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Central Arkansas Veterans Health-care System.

Marjorie Frazier, new assistant professor of nursing education, has a master of nursing Marjorie Frazierdegree in gerontology/mental health with a minor in nursing education from Emory University.

Frazier received an associate degree in nursing from Georgia Highlands College.

She was previously employed at FC as an instructor of nursing in the associated degree program.

Frazier's work experience was at Northwest Geriatrics Aging and Memory Clinic.

Dr. Maurice Wilson, assistant professor of mathematics, comes to FC from MiddleTennesMaurice Wilsonsee State University, where he held the position of assistant professor of developmental mathematics.

Wilson received his doctorate from the University of Tennessee and his master of science in mathematics from Tennessee State University.

Wilson has six years experience teaching college level mathematics, including developmental courses.

Martin HagerstrandMartin A. Hagerstrand, temporary instructor of mathematics, received his master of education in secondary education from the State University of West Georgia.

His bachelor of science in mathematics was received at Berry College.
Hagerstrand attended the Community College of the Air Force, where he received an associate of applied science in electrical power systems.

He has been an adjunct mathematics/learning support faculty member at FC since 2000.
