Neomail email accounts used to sell household items or simply neglected
Have you been checking your Georgia Highlands College email account
lately? If the answer is no, you aren't alone.
The Neomail account that’s given to every student enrolled at Floyd
College (which can be checked at http://mail.highlands.edu) was no doubt created
with the intention of being a vehicle for quick relaying of important
information about happenings in the college. Unfortunately, it seems to
have degenerated into an online cafeteria menu and a forum for those wishing
to sell household appliances.
That’s not to say that there’s necessarily anything wrong with
it being used for that; it’s just that few people seem to be using
it for anything else. Those who do use it for important purposes aren’t
heard because a large percentage of the students don’t even seem
to be aware that they have a highlands.edu account, let alone what their username
is and that their password is the last four digits of their social security
number and the month they were born.
We have a great resource; we’re just not using it enough. The Neomail
accounts are probably the only medium of communication that everyone involved
at FC have in common.
However, like any resource, it can’t be useful if it’s left
untapped and neglected. For students enrolled in “the most wired
two-year school in the world,” we certainly aren’t taking much
advantage of it.
Those students who would like to find out their user name and password
should contact the helpdesk at (706) 295-2376.
