Soccer and volleyball are just a few Spring intramural sports
By Bo Bowling

For those students who are looking for a break from the
havoc that college seems to bring, the time for intramural sports has
arrived.
This spring the intramural staff has decided to feature 5-on-5 basketball.
Sign-ups have already passed for this activity. Games began Jan. 23 and
will be played on Thursdays, at 1:30 p.m., in the Georgia Highlands College gym.
Those looking for an outdoor sport can participate in co-ed softball.
Sign-ups are Feb. 10-March 7. Games will be played on Wednesday afternoons
at 1:30 p.m. on the softball field. The first pitch will be thrown on
March 12.
For all the wannabe beach bums out there, a beach volleyball tournament
will also be played this semester. Sign-ups are from Feb. 10 until March
7. Game dates have yet to be determined.
For the second time ever, soccer will also be offered at FC. Sign-ups
started on Jan. 8 and will end Feb. 1. The FC soccer team will hold practices
every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on the soccer field behind the gym. Players
will have a chance to compete in the mens YMCA adult soccer league.
FC will also offer the FIT program again this semester. FIT stands for
Fitness Incentive Team. It is a program for students who just want some
extra exercise. The program will last 12 weeks. Sign-ups have already
passed and meeting dates will be posted with information on starting dates.
The annual Wesley Walraven Golf Tournament that was started in 1980 will
also take place this semester. Dates were unknown for tee-off at the time
of press.
Anyone wanting to participate can contact Dr. Ken Weatherman in the Physical
Education Office.
There will also be an awards banquet held in the gym lobby on April 24
at 12:30 p.m. for those that participate in intramurals.
Anyone that has missed sign-up deadlines can still sign-up and join in
on the fun.
