Teela Davis strives to help others in the community

Staff Writer

Teela Davis is a very busy student at Georgia Highlands College. Besides the obvious burden of a full-time schedule, she is also currently the vice president of special events for the Student Government Association (SGA).

Her position enables her to help set up different events such as guest speakers, the Spring Fling on April 9 and Family Day, which will allow students with children to bring them to the college and get acquainted with other students' families.

Davis first became involved with the SGA after her first year at FC by serving as an Extreme leader during the Extreme Orientation. She was encouraged by others to run for an SGA office.

Davis is also a member of Student Ambassadors. The ambassadors attend high school PROBE fairs and discuss with students the different opportunities that Georgia Highlands College offers. According to Davis the ambassadors help boost enrollment at the college.

Davis said that she chose FC because it is "closer to home and easier to get involved." She has more than one degree in the making so far.

This spring Davis will graduate from FC with her associate degree in early childhood education, and she will complete her interpreting certificate in December.

Davis was recently accepted to Berry College and plans to enter the teaching program. Davis hopes that a degree in education, a certificate in interpreting and classes in Spanish will open up many opportunities to travel and to "work with children of different cultures."

Davis is also very active in her church, Rock Holiness Church in Temple, Ga. She works with the praise team and is active in the choir.

Davis, her mom and her aunt recently began a program at the church called "Titus Friday." Titus Friday enables children from other communities to come and hear about Jesus.

As if the aforementioned activities were not enough to keep Davis's time occupied, she is also employed as a substitute teacher in the Haralson County school system and she volunteers twice a week at Georgia School for the Deaf.
