When bad weather strikes heres where to look

When the winter weather turns nasty, Georgia Highlands College students
need to know how to determine if classes will meet.
Sandy Briscar, public information director, said, As long as there
is power, students should check the website. That is the easiest way to
get information about the college.
The FC home page, www.highlands.edu, will feature a scrolling message across
the page to alert students to the closings of various campuses. There
will also be a recorded message on the FC telephone line, (706) 802-5000.
Briscar said Dr. Randy Pierce, president of FC, will call and advise her
on the status of the college. Briscar then calls the Office of Information
Technology and the Enrollment Management Office to make sure students
can get the information quickly and easily.
All students should use their own discretion, regardless of whether
or not the college is open, Briscar said. Since FC is a commuter
college, students should always take into account the roads and the conditions
that they will face on the drive in.
Area television and radio stations will also broadcast any closings. Stations
in Rome, Cedartown, Cartersville, Summerville, Atlanta, and even in Cherokee
County, Ala will announce the information. However, Briscar stressed that
students should check the website first since television stations could
be broadcasting thousands of area school, business and government closings.
Students taking Georgia Highlands College classes on the North Metro Tech (NMT) campus
are advised to consult NMTs inclement weather policy. The FC classes
scheduled for that location will not meet when NMT is closed.
