On August 30, Rome Little Theatre kicked off its opening night of “Descendants,” based on the popular Disney original movies.
The full show ran for six days, from Friday to Sunday at the Desoto Theatre. Rome Little Theatre, one of the oldest community theaters in the country, according to its website, had several sponsors for this production, categorized into different tiers.
Auditions began June 29 and were semi-open, allowing auditioners to watch each other but excluding outside observers.
The final cast includes middle school aged kids to college aged people. After callbacks, the cast started rehearsals with smaller sections focusing on music and then choreography. Once all the sections completed those tasks, they proceeded with stage blocking.
The directors wanted to ensure the cast was fully prepared before moving on to full-cast rehearsals, where they ran the show from start to finish.
“The week before opening night, we started adding costumes, mics and props to the mix,” Leeanna Moseley, who played Cruella De Vil said.
Through the “Descendents” cast’s beautiful performance one can clearly see the hard work and dedication of each member. Rome Little Theatre will have several more performances this season, which one can expect to be just as amazing.
