The library system is hiring student assistants. They hope to bring more people onto their team who will help with handling books and other library resources.
Library Associate Brittany Ozmore and Chair of Library Services Jessica Osborne said they are looking for students with good customer service skills. They want someone who can show kindness and a friendly smile to those who enter the library.
The library assistant job is a paid position through the federal work-study program. They are offering $12 an hour, with a maximum of a 19-hour workweek.
Spots for this position are currently open on the Cartersville, Paulding and Marietta campuses.
In this position, student assistants will learn a number of skills in computer literacy, customer service and organization, including shelving.
“They have a list of opening and closing duties, run the front desk, and assist students, faculty and staff who come in. They also answer phones and emails,” Ozmore said.

One position available for this job is an archival assistant role. This includes keeping track of school records and gifts given to the college. Archival assistants will learn skills in cataloguing, digitizing and metadata.
“The initial mission was to keep a historic record of Georgia Highlands College and it has grown to include gifts from the community,” Osborne said.
“I learn a lot with this job, I didn’t know what the Library of Congress filing method was before this,” Student Assistant Addison Moorehead said. “It’s a really good growth opportunity,”

The student assistant position at the library involves supporting the school and assisting students such as helping with educational needs.
