Student assistant desks have been available for a long time, but not everyone knows how to take advantage of this resource.
The desks are located in the Student Center on the Cartersville campus-one underneath the stairs and another in front of the game room. There are also student assistant desks available on all campuses.
Workers at these desks provide help in many areas, including general registration information, class locations and information about different meetings or events. The desks also keep umbrellas handy for students on rainy days.
“I was just standing there waiting, looking outside and one of the student assistants said to me, ‘Do you need an umbrella?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I do, but I don’t have one,’” student Yanirei Sandoval said. “And she was like, ‘We have umbrellas that you can use, and you can bring it back later. We usually offer it to students, especially during thunderstorms.’”

Student assistant Jada James sits at the front desk in the Cartersville campus Student Center.
Students can also visit the student assistant desk to sign in to use the gymnasium facilities and borrow certain sports equipment such as soccer balls and basketballs.
Whitney Puckett, manager of the Cartersville Student Center, trains her student workers in campus navigational skills so they can help others find where they need to go. They also gain the skills to find anything a student might need on the website.
“We are usually the point of contact for reaching out to higher ups like Clifton or Whitney herself,” student Assistant Haley Wells said. “We’re kind of like the point of contact for any sort of approval, you know that need that someone might need in this building, as far as hanging, signing or holding an event.”
The student assistant desks are a helpful resource for everyone, especially those new to campus. As the first faces people see in the Student Center, the workers at the desks provide all the information and help a new student or visitor might need.
“I remember it was probably the first thing that I noticed when I got here,” student Fletcher Fernandez said. “I also remember that they were really nice.”
For new and returning students, the student assistant desk provides helpful information and resources. Whether it’s answering questions, providing items like umbrellas or sports equipment or reaching out to an important faculty member, these workers do whatever they can to support their fellow students on campus.
