Clifton Puckett serves as the student engagement coordinator, responsible for overseeing extracurricular activities since 2010.
In his role, he collaborates with professors to bring their event ideas to fruition, securing funding through Student Engagement. Additionally, he manages SGA meetings and events.
He also mentioned his positive perception of GHC’s efforts in student engagement. “We’ve recently hired a new full-time person, which I believe will greatly enhance the program,” Puckett said.
However, he expressed concerns regarding budgeting, particularly its ties to student fees.
“I would prefer a budget not tethered to student fees,” Puckett said, “as it restricts some initiatives I’d like to pursue, such as collaborations with career services due to the regulations associated with student activities.”
Puckett expresses his enjoyment of engaging with students, particularly during trips such as the visit to the Atlanta Zoo a year ago.
“I really enjoy interacting with students, especially now with our student ambassador program,” Puckett said. “Our student ambassadors serve as excellent role models for other students and effectively represent the college.”
Puckett says that he wasn’t expecting to be a student engagement coordinator. In fact when he got out high school, he became an intern for a state representative.
“My first job was in politics. I served as an intern for a state representative,” Puckett said. “Then, I transitioned into law school and at the last minute, accepted a position as a graduate assistant in the athletic department, where I worked my way up from there.”
He dedicates his limited vacation time to spending quality moments with his wife and children. Additionally, he is an integral part of a high school football team, where he serves as a referee every Friday during the fall season.
“In the Fall, I’m at a football field every Friday night and it is really fun,” Puckett said.
