Cindy Wheeler is an English professor whose job requires her to work with students to help them succeed in their future careers. She teaches a variety of English courses, mainly on the Floyd campus.
“I’m a professor of English,” Wheeler said. “I teach composition, learning support English, English 1101 and literature classes here. I primarily teach at the Floyd campus and online, but in the last year, I have also taught at Paulding and in Cartersville.”
Wheeler suggests that English classes could be improved to enhance students’ learning and careers.
“For example, my class meets for two class periods. If more students realize the benefits of longer classes, they might be more inclined to enroll.” Wheeler said.
Her favorite aspect of teaching English lessons is interacting with students and helping them achieve their goals.
“I didn’t know what to expect because I didn’t teach in high school; I went straight into college teaching. But it’s been everything I had hoped for,” Wheeler said.
She mentions a trip to Ireland and England that significantly influenced her teaching approach.
“Since then, I’ve tried to incorporate literature from these places into my teaching. I believe it helps students realize that the world is smaller than they think,” she said.
In her free time, Wheeler enjoys various activities.
“I love baseball and have tickets to see the Rome Emperors play in a couple of weeks,” Wheeler said. “Additionally, I enjoy attending live music concerts, primarily focusing on country music.”
