On Aug. 26, Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement on social media. The Instagram post showed Kelce on one knee in a flower garden. Its caption read “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The two have been a couple since 2023. After Kelce attended a show on Swift’s Eras Tour, he talked about her on a podcast with his brother. Swift later reached out to him.
Students shared their thoughts on the engagement.
“She’s been through so much with her past relationships. I’m happy that she’s happy,” Mackenzie Snyder said.
“Congratulations,” Angela Pena said. “I wish her and her fiance the best.”
“I saw a TikTok about her ring and how it was handmade by a small-business owner, and I thought that was really cool,” Elyse Carney said.
ABC News has confirmed that the ring—featuring an Old Mine brilliant-cut diamond—was designed by Travis Kelce together with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
Student Media Coordinator Katie Baxter teaches a special topics class called “Taylor Swift: Cultural Icon and Storyteller,” where she explores Swift’s anthology and the history behind it.
Some of Baxter’s students shared their thoughts on the class.
“All of the relationships and things that she’s been through throughout her life has helped make this one work out the way that it did, and I think that’s something to really celebrate,” student Trinity Hamilton said.
“We watched a music video in here, and she was the girl in the band, she had a huge crush on this football player,” Michael Eidson said. “I think it’s kind of funny now that she’s still like the music girl, and he’s like the NFL Pro Bowl.”
Baxter shared her thoughts on the couple as well.
“As we navigate through her albums chronologically in my Taylor Swift class, we’ve been talking about that growth that comes throughout time,” Baxter said. “So seeing her now a decade later, in a relationship that seems so different from all of her other relationships, it’s just another example of how we grow and we evolve as people.”
Fans and students alike are celebrating the couple’s milestone with excitement and well-wishes. As details of the wedding unfold, many are eager to see what comes next for Swift and Kelce.
