The Cartersville Writing Center has added new student tutors to assist fellow students.
“Previously, the writing center was all faculty members, which made students feel a little scared to come in,” Aly Gilmore, the head coordinator of the Writing Center, said. “So with the student tutors, it feels more like you’re talking to a collaborator and less like you’re talking to an instructor about your work.”
Each student tutor has a role tailored to their major.
Gracie Lanham, a Digital Media and Communications major, serves as the Writing Center’s social media coordinator. She manages the Instagram account and helps design posters and advertisements.
“It’s pretty rewarding because I get to meet so many different people and see how they write, how their experiences form, and the ideas that they incorporate into their work. It’s very enlightening,” Lanham said.
Courtney Gimson handles the training modules for the Writing Center and assists online students during virtual appointments.
“It’s really fun,” Gimson said. “It’s a place where I can be comfortable and talk to people. It’s also a place where I can be serious whenever my peers come in seeking advice or something.”

Lauren Dose, the newest hire at the Writing Center, also shared her thoughts.
“I come home feeling so fulfilled that I get to work one-on-one with so many students and assist them with their writing,” Dose said. “I feel like I’m honoring my professors and the people who have come before me and given me the skills to write.”
Although no positions are currently open, the Writing Center will soon hire more tutors. Students interested can email [email protected] for more information. Gilmore’s long-term goal is to eventually hire student assistants on each campus.
The Writing Center’s new student tutors have brought fresh energy and perspective to its services. With their addition, the center continues to grow as a valuable resource for students seeking writing support.
