Free COVID-19 antibody testing for Cartersville blood drive donors

The American Red Cross will be on the Cartersville campus on Thursday, February 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be one of three opportunities for members of the GHC community to donate and get a little more in return than juice and cookies.

Donors of the Cartersville blood drive are eligible for a free COVID-19 antibody test in addition to helping ensure a stable blood supply during the pandemic. Donated blood that is found to have antibodies may be turned into a life-saving treatment for COVID-19 patients.

According to Clifton Puckett, Cocurricular and Transition Programs Coordinator, donors should expect a short wait, but the donation itself only takes about 10 minutes.

Puckett said, “Whether or not there’s a wait depends on the time that the student shows up.” To avoid a wait, Pucket suggests donors pre-book their time slot on the Red Cross website and enter “ghccartersville” in the promo code bar.

There will be another Red Cross Blood Drive on March 3. Floyd residents will have a chance to donate on March 15.
